World Conference of Mayors for Peace through
Inter-city Solidarity, Opening Ceremony



Based on the theme, Peace Justice and Freedom - Efforts Toward Global Harmony, the 4 th World Conference of Mayors for Peace through Inter-city Solidarity began its 2-day program with an opening ceremony (re:picture) at the Hiroshima International Conference Center in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Hiroshima Mayor, Takashi Hiraoka made an opening address saying, "We hope to discuss about the roles we must to take in order to make the hopeful 21 century." Following the mayor's address, Dr. Martin Harwit, the Former Director, National Air and Pace Museum, Smithsonian Institution, had a special speech. Plenary Session is scheduled to begin from the afternoon and the participants will have discussions based on the theme, "Lessons of the 20th century and issues for the 21st century."

239 mayors and delegates, participating from 115 cities and 33 overseas countries as of Aug. 4.
