NAGASAKI, Aug. 9 Kyodo -- Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said Friday he does not plan to visit China in the fall to mark the 30th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral ties.
''I won't stick to the plan'' of visiting China in the fall, the premier told reporters.
In mid-April, Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji invited Koizumi to China when they met on Hainan Island.
But the Japanese premier paid homage at Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo which honors Japanese war criminals along with war dead shortly after the summit meeting, souring the friendly mood between the two states.
Koizumi spoke to reporters Friday right after he attended a peace ceremony in Nagasaki commemorating the 57th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of the southwestern Japan city.
In Tokyo, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda told reporters that Japan and China have yet to even start talks about a schedule for Koizumi's visit to China.
''No concrete time frame has been set,'' the top government spokesman said.
