Japan's apology, compensation for Korean
A-bomb victims urged
BEIJING, Aug. 5 Kyodo - The chairman of North
Korea's Anti-Nuke Peace Consultative Council
of A-Bomb Victims called Saturday for Japan
to apologize and compensate Koreans who fell
victim to the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima
and Nagasaki, the North's Korean Central
News Agency said in a report monitored in
Beijing.
Ju Song Un made the call in a statement issued
to coincide with the 55th anniversary Sunday
of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima.
He said the victims in the two Japanese cities
included ''tens of thousands of Koreans.''
''The present Japanese government has sidestepped
and evaded the issue of apology and compensation
to Korean A-bomb victims under the pretext
of the absence of diplomatic relations between
the two countries,'' the report said quoting
a statement issued by Ju.

The statement also called on Japan to publicize
''all information'' about Korean atomic bomb
victims and render humanitarian assistance
to them.
