Another antinuke confab starts in Hiroshima
HIROSHIMA, Aug. 4 Kyodo - The Japan Congress
Against A and H Bombs (Gensuikin) on Friday
opened a six-day series of conferences in
Hiroshima commemorating the 1945 atomic bombings
of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
articipants including foreign guest speakers
in this year's symposium, which will end
Wednesday in Nagasaki, are expected to discuss
how to eliminate nuclear arsenals and scrap
nuclear power plants.
The antinuclear group is backed by the main
opposition Democratic Party of Japan, the
opposition Social Democratic Party, and the
Japanese Trade Union Confederation (Rengo)
-- Japan's largest labor organization.
ensuikin Secretary General Koei Sato who
opened the discussions, said, ''We have contaminated
ourselves and all living things on the earth
with radioactive materials in the 20th century.
Let us discuss realizing a nuclear-free society.''

on Wednesday kicked off a series of conferences
that will also end Wednesday in Nagasaki.
